Getting the Right Start With Puppy & Kitten Wellness Care

Puppy & Kitten Care at Spencer Animal Hospital

Puppies and kittens are just starting to build their immune systems, so in order for them to thrive, they need special attention. After you have taken a couple of days to get acquainted, we recommend you contact us to schedule your new family member’s first veterinary exam. This initial visit typically takes about 30 to 40 minutes to allow enough time to thoroughly evaluate your pet and to answer any questions you may have concerning his or her care.

What to Expect

Parasites are especially harmful to younger pets and can be present at birth. Some of these parasites, particularly roundworms and hookworms, can be transmitted to people, so it is essential that your pet be tested as soon as possible. We ask that pet owners bring in a fresh stool sample (less than eight hours old) to test for internal parasites.

To protect baby animals against a wide range of serious and potentially deadly conditions, a series of booster vaccines, administered over a three to four week period, are generally started right away. These help to stimulate the immune systems and build protection against disease.

In addition, you can expect the first visit to include:
