Dennis Mangum, DVM

Dennis MangumA 1971 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University, Dr. Dennis Mangum loves interacting with people and their pets. He made veterinary medicine his career decision when in the fourth grade. After graduating from high school in the East Texas town of Canton, Dennis continued his studies, never wavering from his goal—to become a veterinarian.

After receiving his Doctor’s degree, Dr. Mangum settled in Pasadena, where in 1974, he opened the original Spencer Animal Hospital in a small shopping center. In 1979 that practice relocated to the current award winning facility dedicated to the continuation of providing quality animal health care. Dr. Mangum’s professional credits include memberships in the American Veterinary Medical Association, Texas Veterinary Medical Association, Harris County Veterinary Medical Association, and the Texas Academy of Veterinary Practice. Additionally, Spencer Animal Hospital is accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association, of which Dr. Mangum is also a member.

Dr. Mangum serves as a Deacon of his church, and enjoys flying (he is a Certified Flight Instructor.) Other hobbies include running and biking.

Dr. Mangum and his wife have three daughters, four grandsons and two granddaughters. Two of his daughters and a son-in-law followed his footsteps to Texas A&M. His middle daughter, Alaina, is the Practice Manager of Spencer Animal Hospital.


Amanda Lovell, DVM

Amanda LovellDr. Amanda Lovell joined our practice as a full time Associate Veterinarian in November 2014 after performing relief work for our hospital since 2011. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology at the University of Alabama and started working on the human medicine side before deciding to change her career. Dr Lovell obtained her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University in 2008. After receiving her degree, Dr Lovell, moved back to Texas to engage in private practice and be closer to her family.

Dr. Lovell is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association as well as the Harris County Veterinary Medical Association. She has a special interest in ophthalmology, endocrinology, and soft tissue surgery. Her duties at Spencer Animal Hospital include surgery, inpatient care, and outpatient care.

"I love interacting with clients and their pets. It is very important to me to work closely with clients to provide individualized treatment and preventative care for their pets. Veterinary medicine is an exciting challenge everyday and I couldn't imagine doing anything else. I am honored to work at this hospital with Dr Mangum, Dr Borovick, and the amazing staff and continue to learn from them daily."

Dr. Lovell has five pugs (Colby, Sadie, Matilda, Harold, and Penelope) and a mutt dog, Harper. When she is not chasing pugs around, Dr Lovell, also enjoys scrapbooking, roller skating, and spending time with her family.


Caroline Graham, DVM

Caroline GrahamDr. Graham was raised in Crosby, TX and grew up showing 4-H animals and horses. From the time she was little , she always said she wanted to be a "pet"erinarian. Dr. Graham graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. She enjoys working on horses, dogs and cats. Some of her special interests lie in horse dentistry as well as dog and cat dentistry.

Outside of work Dr. Graham enjoys Team Roping with her husband Frank and doing Crossfit to stay healthy. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends at the beach and watching Texans Football.



Helene Norton, DVM

Helene NortonDr. Helene Norton grew up in Southern California and received her Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science, in 2012, at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo, a small town in Central Coast California. Loving adventure and traveling, she then attended veterinary school at Ross University on St Kitts and Nevis Island in the Caribbean, followed by a year of clinical rotations at the Louisiana State University Animal Teaching Hospital.

After receiving her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2015, she moved back to Central Coast California to work as a veterinarian in an emergency animal clinic. In January 2017, she moved to the state of Texas following her husband's new job at NASA; and we welcomed her into our practice as a full time Associate Veterinarian.

Dr. Norton settled immediately in the Texan way of life and became a member of the Houston Rodeo and Livestock Show Veterinary Committee, which is involved in testing livestock for performance enhancing substances and antibiotics that could potentially be detrimental to human health. She is especially interested in soft tissue surgery, dentistry, emergency, and preventative medicine.

She lives with her husband, Chris, and their two dogs Zoe and Arya. Zoe was rescued off the streets of the Caribbean Island of St Kitts as a young puppy. Although she is a mutt, we like to call her a “coconut retriever”. Arya is a German Shepherd who loves to show off her tricks and needs lots of love and attention. In her free time, Dr. Norton enjoys hiking, camping, traveling, and spending time with family.

Dr. Mangum and his staff have been our pets’ choice clinic since 1971. Never has there been a more knowledgeable, caring, and friendly team with such unprecedented customer service. Forty one years of great service to us and all of our pets throughout the years!
